The Hospital is a 200 bed, regional acute care inpatient facility of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) which serves 13 counties of the upstate of South Carolina. The hospital provides intensive, short-term, psychiatric diagnostic and treatment services on a 24 hour, emergency voluntary and involuntary basis. The SCDMH mental health centers screen admissions and are actively involved in discharge planning.

​Patrick B. Harris Hospital is a pleasant, well kept facility, which opened in 1985. Experienced, licensed staff in a treatment team approach provides quality patient care. Meeting patient and family needs are our top priority. The facility is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). Patients are served on the basis of need and not on the ability to pay. In addition to providing patient care, the hospital is a training site for three medical schools, six nursing schools and other graduate degree training programs to include: social work, pharmacy, activity therapy, dieticians and nurse practitioners.
